Proposal for a CRDTs on At Proto Working Group

There’s been some work done on using the PDS / At Proto as a to store and transmit CRDT operations. There is a general feeling that if we can figure out the right approach for this it will enable a number of new experiences on At Proto, specifically a collaborative editing approach that is localfirst.

We hope that as a working group we can come up with some of the following:

  1. A set of best practices and recommendations that apps can adopt to enable collaborative, localfirst, editing via crdts on At Proto.
  2. A set of standard.site-esque lexicons that conform to the best practices and enable easy interoperation.
  3. A full set of libraries, and lexicons allowing for true interop between applications while still giving applications room for growth.

There are at-least 3 people beyond myself who would like to be inaugural members of this Working Group:

Hey all! Great, you’re good to go. I’ll create a WG-CRDT category and a group to go with it with you all as owners.

You can post publicly or use the group messages (basically a mini mailing list) and allow people to self opt in to the group.

If you’re going to use other channels - just post where discussions are happening so people can follow along. Does that make sense? Any questions?

If you end up wanting to create a community lexicon you can just use the same group.
