Integration with Retroachievements.org

I want to start out by saying I’m really excited to continue to discover the Atmosphere community, and as an end user rather than a developer, I thought this might be a good suggestion for the group.

Bringing RetroAchievements to the AT Protocol

It would be a really neat feature to incorporate the retroachievements.org API so users can view and share their gaming accomplishments directly on the AT protocol. Some examples can include:

  • logging a 100% completion in The Legend of Zelda Minish Cap
  • showing off recent progress in Pokémon Red
  • there is also rich presence on their site, however I am not sure if it is apart of the API.

Having these milestones visible would be a highly engaging addition for the gaming side of the community.

By utilizing this API the platform could automatically help build out a user’s gaming profile. It could seamlessly pull in data to populate:

  • A “Played Games” library
  • Total playtime statistics

I’d love to hear what developers and other community members think about the feasibility of tying this into Atomosphere! I will be honest, I am not familiar really with how the API works from Retroachievements.org’s side.

This is a really cool idea, but it feels like more of a platform-specific feature rather than a standardized lexicon for cross-compat. It’s definitely something @trezy.codes could consider for Cartridge, though!
