I’m leaning towards updating this document to clarify it’s status: that it is describing a deployed identifier syntax that can not move forward as a URI. I’ll remove the term “URI” from the title and text.
Personally, i’m still not sure what the best path forward is for resolving the underlying dilemma, and i’m not confident about resolving on the timeline of the upcoming meeting (IETF 127 in San Francisco). I do not think that the situation is intractable, but it will take some more conversations.
